Statement From Director

A Cystic Fibrosis Research Development Program at the Johns Hopkins University was established in 1989. This program conducts high caliber research and provides training focused directly on understanding and correcting the defect in CF. Our goal is to reverse or amend the course of the disease by contributing to the collective understanding of the molecular defect in CF. The Johns Hopkins University provides an excellent environment to maintain this RDP because of the commitment of researchers to focus their research efforts on the study of CF. The expertise of these researchers is in the areas of biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, clinical research, and molecular biology. The CF RDP functions as a focal point for an interdisciplinary approach to the study of CF. A major function is to attract and train new investigators. By providing funding for promising new initiatives, the RDP has aided members of our group to obtain funding for CF related research from sources other than the CF Foundation. The RDP grew out of an integration of the basic and clinical sciences with the common goal of helping CF patients by developing new therapies. A particular strength is the collaborative interaction of senior and independent principal investigators from both clinical and basic science departments. This combination of independence and collaboration stems from the environment at JHU where independent thought and scientific discovery are valued very highly.

Who we are?

The mission of the center is to increase awareness, perform research and work towards a cure for cystic fibrosis.
